Guidelines

For those who are interested in joining, or wish to know our operating standards, here are our main guidelines

1. We are volunteers. Everything we do, we do for the benefit of the 12th Armor Mermorial Museum. Any money donated to us will first go to the museum, unless specifically earmarked for the other projects. Items purchased for presentations with private funds are the property of the owner. Group purchases, if any, go to the museum.

2. We are not actors. We are interpreters of history. When we put on our uniforms, we do not become Tom Hanks in Saving Private Ryan. We are still who we are without uniforms. We are to be informed on the subject (WWII in general, and the 12th armored in particular) and as historically accurate as possible. Substitution is allowed if an original or replica is not available but must be approved before hand.

3. The period that we interpret is late 1944 – 1945 ETO. We are to remain loyal to the 12th armored division in our interpretation. Other presentations are to be approved ahead of time by the museum. Our objective is to educate the public on WWII in general and on the 12th armored division in particular.

4. Appearance. We understand that everybody has their own sense of fashion and style, but when involved in the presentations, we need someone who will look the part of a soldier of World War 2. This means wearing the uniform properly and having the appropriate grooming. Facial hair is not bad as long as it is no more than a week’s growth. Mustaches are ok, no goatees or beards. They were not allowed in the military at that time. As far as hair length goes, the historically accurate style was buzz cut, but if it can be easily covered with a helmet then there should be no problem.

If you have any questions, please ask. We are doing this for fun and for history and would like to keep the misunderstandings to a minimum.

What we need in volunteers? We need interpreters for the other parts of the 12th, such as medics, recon, radio operator, etc.  As for equipment, any WWII era uniforms are welcome, accessories, and field equipment. As stated above, all monetary donations go to the Museum, which will benefit our group also. To contact us, please call (325) 677-6515.
